For five years, the Commission strives to improve mental health on the border population. The complexity of reality and the constant movement that lives at the border is sometimes hard and grim for many individuals who relapse into addictions, depression, or resort into violence to feel stable. Therefore, the Commission forms multidisciplinary workgroups to define necessary mechanisms to tie BHC activities together with programs managed by local and state public health authorities to manage programs that best address the problems of the border population.

At the same time, the Commission plans, organizes and implements health promotion and prevention activities related to addiction/substance use and abuse; screenings for depression and family violence; and provides continuing education and training to public health and healthcare personnel at both the health district and county levels.
