This has been the first biggest conference about this issue in the region and the only work group in which associates from all Mexico and US government levels gather to discuss the problems related to obesity to develop preventive strategies.
This is one of the binational activities that each year is organized by the Mexico -United States Border Health Commission with the purpose to gather federal, state and municipal organisms to develop a strategy to prevent obesity.
The work group that conforms this activity identifies the lack of related information related to the magnitude and distribution of obesity along the border to foster new policies, environmental change, new educational practices and public policies to facilitate the creation of healthy habits trough healthy diet and daily exercise. The workgroup also promotes alliances that build and evaluate practices and knowledge in a binational level.
At this point the group is developing the five year Strategic Integral Plan for the prevention of obesity at the border, this will include an educative campaign along the Mexico and US border it will provide the leadership and orientation to implement the strategy with the support of the Mexico-United States Border Health Commission.
