About the Commission

The United States-Mexico Border Health Commission (BHC) is a bi-national body, created in July 2000 through an agreement between the governments of Mexico and the United States, in order to identify and evaluate the health problems that affect the population that lives in the border, as well as facilitating actions to take care of them. The Federal Government of Mexico and the United States, through the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, form part of the organizational structure of the BHC and actively participate in its activities.

In this sense, the BHC led the Binational Technical Group that developed the Healthy Border 2020 initiative with the goal of defining priorities, issues, objectives and strategies so that different sectors of the US-Mexico border region can use it as a frame of reference in their work plans.
